Pinelands High provides a rich tapestry of opportunities for learners to develop leadership skills. Matrics serve in various capacities and are trained at various seminars, camps and training sessions for the posts they fill.
Councillors are elected democratically by the Staff and senior learners (grades 10 to 12) and serve for the last term of grade 11 and the first three terms of their matric year. They are the role models for the school, and assist with maintaining discipline and upholding the ethos of the school. In line with the school’s Mission Statement, councillors are encouraged to set their own focus for the year and to initiate and drive projects that will enrich the teaching and learning experience for all.
Custodians assist staff in many areas of the school’s life including overseeing the computer lab, the tuckshop, the bookshop, and many unseen areas of school life that are taken for granted.
Peer Helpers are senior learners who are specifically trained to assist and support the junior grades. They are trained to listen, offer help and explore different alternatives to problems so that junior learners can resolve issues themselves. Their training in counselling helps them to know when it is appropriate for them to help, and when they need to encourage learners to seek assistance from our guidance department or other staff.
