In Grades 8 and 9, learners will study the following subjects:
LANGUAGE:
This learning area encourages learners to explore language usage and its meanings and conventions. Our aim is to empower learners to write with clarity, read with comprehension, speak effectively, listen with understanding, and appreciate the literature of each language. Learners study English, and either Afrikaans or isiXhosa.
MATHEMATICS:
Here we deal with the quantitative relationships of space and time. We study patterns, problem-solving and logical thinking in an attempt to understand our world and make use of that understanding.
ECONOMIC AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCE:
In this learning area we will equip learners with knowledge and comprehension of economic and management skills and competencies, as well as an understanding of economic development.
NATURAL SCIENCES:
The Natural Sciences, comprising the physical, life and earth sciences, involve the systematic study of the material universe as a set of related systems. The collection, analysis and critical evaluation of data are emphasised.
SOCIAL SCIENCES:
Learners study the physical and natural world in which we live, the social and political environment we shape and share, and the story of our past.
LIFE ORIENTATION:
In this learning area, facilitators equip learners with a variety of essential life skills, promote the acquisition of knowledge upon which to base important decisions and deal with the values in line with our Statement of Values and Intent.
TECHNOLOGY:
Learners are taught to use knowledge, skills and resources to meet human needs in a changing world. Learners recognise and solve problems by analysing, investigating, developing and evaluating products, processes and systems.
MUSIC, ART OR DRAMA:
Learners choose to study music, art or drama. Music students can choose between a general music course or subject music. Learners who take music as a subject are expected to join one of the school's junior bands. (Please note that there is an annual subject charge for learners choosing music as a subject in Grades 8 and 9.) Learners who choose art will study different techniques and media in fine art, and drama students will be introduced to many facets of drama.
