In this policy, unless context indicates otherwise, “the School” means Pinelands High School.
Based inter alia on the number of Educators, the School’s facilities and the choice of subjects offered at the school, the School shall admit no more than 960 Learners at any time. Grade 8 classes shall be no bigger than 33 Learners per class.
The language of instruction at the School shall be English. It is in the best interests of the Learner that they are able to cope in an English medium environment. This ability will be assessed in the interview.
No Learner will be admitted to the School without a prior interview.
Preference will be given to Learners who:
- Comply, in full, with the Admissions Procedure;
- Permanently reside in the area for which Pinelands High School is the nearest school;
- Have specialised skills, talents or needs which the School has the potential to develop as indicated in the application or the interview;
- Show the highest academic potential;
- Have a good disciplinary record.
If an applicant has siblings at the School, has direct family members as alumni or has attended one of the three State Pinelands primary schools, these factors will be taken into consideration during the admissions process, but DO NOT form part of the core criteria for admission.
It is our intention to admit learners to PHS in a fair and just manner according to the Admissions Procedure laid out, implementing the Admissions Policy.
